Letter to the Editor-

Representative Nathan Cote hit the ground running in his freshmen term with the New Mexico House of Representatives, introducing eight pieces of legislation which were signed into law by Governor Bill Richardson.  This is an amazing accomplishment for a freshman legislator.  The people of Las Cruces, Dona Ana and Otero Counties and District 53 have been well served by Representative Cote’s energy, focus and intelligence.

Representative Cote worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those he represents.  For example, as a result of his efforts, New Mexico now provides free year-round access to state parks, museums and monuments and a free three-day camping pass once a year for disabled veterans with a 50 percent or higher disability. The role of physician assistants has been expanded, which should help to alleviate the shortage of qualified health-care professionals in New Mexico. The residents of Las Cruces may now show city pride by purchasing a new license plate bearing a special logo which only Las Cruceans may purchase.

As a member of New Mexico’s citizen legislature, Representative Cote has been committed 365 days a year to serving the needs of his district and New Mexico.  It has been my honor to serve with him, and I wanted to take this opportunity to applaud Representative Cote’s valuable service.
